Front & Rear Garden Transformation
Glasgow
The rear garden was uninviting, with no seating and no reason to spend time in it. The front garden was basic and functional, with a straight path to the front door and a grassy area to the side.
The Challenge
Enhance the visual appeal and functionality of both the front and rear gardens.
- Introduce a seating area in the rear garden.
- Make the front garden more visually interesting.
- Improve the connection between the house and garden.
The Design Solution
After fully reviewing the front & rear gardens, we transformed the spaces by:
- In the front garden, we created a curving sandstone path to bring visitors into the space rather than straight to the door.
- A small, irregular lawn was added, framed by planting suited to both full sun and deep shade near the house.
- In the rear garden, sandstone stepping stones lead from the back of the house into a garden filled with lush, sun-loving plants.
- A main patio and entertaining area were surrounded by planting that provides interest throughout the year.
- Additional stepping stones lead to a small seating area and the rear gate.
The Result
The once plain and underutilised spaces are now welcoming and structured, with defined zones for seating, planting, and movement.
Fun Fact:
The sandstone paving in this garden was recycled from the Inchrye project in Fife.
I would thoroughly recommend MUSA Landscape. I moved to Scotland and desperately wanted to achieve something a little inspiring for my small front and back gardens. (I live in a 1900 traditional terrace house in Glasgow). These were two very boring strips of rectangular lawn. I am very much a novice and needed to find someone I could trust to provide the expertise and advice to help me achieve what I wanted - something practical, easy to maintain and offering interest year round.
It was also important that the design was bird and insect friendly. I met with Ryan and he spent time to understand what I wanted; explained the whole design and project management process from beginning to end and came up with alternative design and pricing options. We agreed the final plan and he has ensured he delivered to this, with no hidden extras. Ryan has shown flexibility around the timescales taking into account unforeseen issues (inclement weather; a leaking drain and a fence that needed entirely replacing). He has shown meticulous attention to detail and has exceeded all expectations.
I am thrilled with my "new" gardens and delight in seeing how the planting scheme is evolving. I would have no hesitation in recommending Ryan to anyone considering a similar project.Pam McDonald, Glasgow
